We revisited the Please Touch Museum this week, spending only five hours - a far cry from our epic seven hour adventure.
We did have to take a rather stern time-out of play just before lunchtime, though. There was some crankiness and unpleasantness and short-temperedness that culminated in epic frustration when we arrived at the grocery store to find all of the carts were TAKEN!*
Lunch did the trick. I'm finding whenever crankiness sets upon us it's wise to sit down and shovel nuts, eggs, and yogurt into their mouths. Peter and Lucy may be walking allergens, by the way. Heaven help us if Thomas develops a nut allergy.
Speaking of food, I realized on this trip that the pretend supermarket remains just as difficult as it ever were, possibly even more so. It's not a beneficiary of my "oh, things are actually much easier without being pregnant with two small children."
Our favorite place to play remains the program room. Even though we almost always just read books, play with floam or clay, and paint - all things we can do at home. It's more fun in the museum, especially when someone else cleans up the paintbrushes and paint splatters and tiny bits of floam scattered around like dandruff.
Thomas didn't exactly have a great trip, but he did enjoy some good chomping-on-stuff time. Also of note: he's terrified of the Mad Hatter in Alice and Wonderland. He's never had a reaction like this before, but every time he'd look at the Mad Hatter, he'd whimper and cry and bury his head in my shoulder. This, after I placed him in the chair next to the Mad Hatter when we arrived at the tea party. Total terror!
*And why, why, why didn't they listen to me, when I said (at 9:30, when we first arrived), "hey, it looks pretty empty, let's go to the supermarket since it won't be crowded?"
