Last night we visited the Brandywine Zoo. It's a tiny, tiny zoo in Wilmington, and during the summer it hosts $1 admission nights.
Did you catch the double use of the word "night" above? The zoo opened at 6 p.m. Our children usually are in bed, ready for dreamland, around 7 p.m.*
Lucy slept the entire trip. The entire zoo trip, that is. She woke just as we were getting back to our car, and, despite having taken a 2-hour "nap" at 6 p.m., was not up until 1 a.m. (I had fears.)
Peter said he enjoyed the trip, although still kind of insists we didn't see all of the animals.
Perhaps because Lucy was asleep during last night's field trip, and perhaps because it wasn't 1,000 degrees outside, I suggested our regular zoo for today.
Total bust. Total, total, total bust. Really. Maybe the kids were too tired, maybe I needed another cup of coffee, maybe it was just a bit too crowded for their little bodies, and maybe no one really wanted to go to the zoo anyway. Whatever the reason (and it probably was all of the above), the trip was not fun at all.
So, there you have it: two ways to visit the zoo, neither of which come with my recommendation.
*Although they sound rambunctious tonight at 7:30. Curse ye, afternoon nap! Kevin and I were hoping for a nice, quiet evening with some take-out and True Blood.
