It boggles the mind that Lucy's turning three, only because isn't she four already?
Lucy spent her special birthday doing some of her most favorite things, including eating "Chinese chicken" for lunch, spending all day at the pool with her friends (and Daddy!), receiving a few happy birthday phone calls, and riding her brand-new bicycle. (Thanks, Grandpa!)
We ended her day with a trip to a local pizza place that features a hippie pizza bus AND television AND free balloons AND free Ms. Pacman. Oh, and pizza slices were just 99 cents. Who needs Chuck E Cheese?
Even though the running commentary on Lucy is that she acts so much older than her age, it's easy to see how much she's grown in this past year. Her capacity for pretend play, for sustained games, for remembering (oh, and how I wish sometimes she'd not remember), and for entertaining herself have taken off. She's almost always in the "dry undies club," she's willing to try almost any new food or situation, and she's so amazingly considerate of her brothers, especially Thomas.
This isn't to say she doesn't have moments of strong will, but she's more willing to talk about hurt feelings or thwarted expectations than she was even a few months ago.
In this past year Lucy's fallen in love with PINK and all things "baby doll" and is really, truly a little girl. And even though her fashion sense leaves something to be desired, she has a strong opinion about what she wants to wear and when. Snow pants in August? Why not. It's Lucy's world, my friends.
She started this year with her baby face and ended it as a little girl. The transition melts me every time, and even though it's sad to see them grow, it's rewarding to see the little people they grow into. And world, watch out - Lucy's a'coming.
