(1) It's summer, so it must be time for the Second Annual Solar Oven S'Mores party!
Don't tell the kids, but these s'mores had a bit of help in the toaster oven. It helps if you choose a sunny day and start your solar oven before 3 p.m., but I'd told Peter we could make the s'mores before he fell asleep on the way home from today's park playdate, and no amount of logic could sway him from the triple treat of chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cookies. Also, we almost always say "graham cookies," so the children properly appreciate their sweet, sweet, sweetness.
Thomas had a graham cookie, too, because I'd just read a study which showed that babies as young as 10 months can tell they're being left out of the fun. It's not a new fact for anyone with a baby, but it reminded me that I need to be better about including him, too.
(2) It's summer, so it must be time for the Second Annual Mold and Mildew Breakout!
Nothing says dank like the moldy mildew breakout we've contended with for two summers. Kitchen cabinets, downstairs closet, train table - all victims. Kevin and I have been at work scrubbing down, doing laundry, and, in perhaps the worst move ever, tossing every pair of shoes we own into the washing machine and then dryer. As Kevin noted, "I thought we were being bombed, but then I realized it was just the dryer."
