September has found us with a new homeschooling mentality, some new routines, and an overall better fit between needs, expectations, and outcomes. This isn't to say that there aren't moments of frustration, but those generally come in the form of Thomas wanting to get in on the fun. The more the merrier! (Except when the baby wants to marker.)
We took our study of the farm to Longwood Gardens last week. I drafted a scavenger hunt and they went about finding all of the items on their lists. Then, we did some nature study at an obliging table in the middle of the garden. Of particular interest: a cache of sticky, squishy insect eggs and some giant slugs.
Lest you think this scene too precious, after about ten minutes at their seats the baby tried to eat the slug, the girl went foraging for ripe vegetables, and the oldest set to work climbing the squash trellis and, when asked to stop, tried locking us in the garden.
Then again, ten minutes is about as much as I can expect from them. Success!
