It's surprising to me that for as often as we've gone on field trips with our playgroup, and as often as we've gone to the zoo, we've never gone to the zoo with our playgroup.
That changed on a gorgeous Monday afternoon, where the zoo was nicely quiet. It made a great environment for wandering the zoo with friends. I'm thankful, because the zoo has a tendency to do us in, and we almost always leave with someone (a) in tears, (b) almost in tears or (c) having recovered from tears.*

amazingly, no baby nor goat was hurt during the making of this video
This trip was a big one for Thomas, who is truly coming into his own as a zoo visitor. He can spot animals, gaze at them with curious intensity, and, in the petting zoo, get just a little too close for comfort. If I weren't allergic to pets, I have a feeling this would be the child who pushes us over the edge - he definitely has an appreciation for and adoration of animals that out paces his brother and sister.
Also, with Thomas's newly perfected walking and standing skills, he was more than able to stand with the big kids and admire the wildlife.
*Monday was no exception. It was Thomas, in the stroller, overtired and refusing to nap. Babies these days!
