I've been behind on our family photos and this journal, but in coming to our photos a week or so later than I would have, I can see a new pattern in them that I may have missed if I'd trudged along with the "and we went to XXX! and it was awesome!"
Can you spot the new ingredient in the mix?
I've been down this road twice before, and each time I'm dumbstruck by the transformation from baby to person, all in the short course of 365 days.
In church today Thomas fell asleep in my arms - the kind of exhausted baby sleep in which I probably could dangle him upside-down and blow raspberries on his kneecaps and he'd still snore on - and I very consciously held his soft face to mine and tried to soak it in. Peter sat next to me, a reminder that these little boys grow up so quickly, and soon enough Thomas will have arm muscles and leg hair and all manners of little boy-ness that Peter suddenly has.
For now, though, Thomas is all chunky legs and smooth skin and fluffy baby curls, the perfect size to cuddle and carry and snuggle all day long.
