Lucy's observational skills are, if not impressive, then interesting. For example:
1. Yesterday I came from our outside play to find Lucy already seated at her chair, sewing in one hand and a glass of seltzer in the other. As she put it, "I had to get the seltzer because I was feeling sleepy, and I wanted to finish knitting this hat for Thomas, so I might stay up late to finish it."
Hmm. Wonder if she's heard phrases like this before? Staying up late, drinking coffee...sounds familiar.
2. A few days ago, Lucy had the following conversation with Kevin:
Lucy: Do you remember the man at storytime with the big penis?
Kevin: No, Lucy, I do not. Can you tell me more about him?
Lucy: He had a big penis. It wasn't out or anything, but I could tell it was big. Mommy could tell, too.
3. Today, Lucy set to work in her play kitchen arranging different types of food and drink on a tray. Then, she came around to the rest of us and said, "here are some things to try. They have good things inside. You can buy them at the store. This is good for adults, it has coffee inside."
Oh, yes. She's been paying attention to the subtleties of the sample tables at the tiniest supermarket in the world.
4. And tonight:
Kevin: Lucy, what are you going to be like as a teenager?
Lucy: NAUGHTY!
